Overview
The Consulate General of Chile in Shanghai serves eastern China — the Yangtze River Delta and one of the world's largest consumer markets. Shanghai is China's commercial and financial capital and a critical entry point for Chilean exports. Chilean cherries have become a Chinese New Year staple, with peak volumes arriving through Shanghai and Ningbo-Zhoushan ports in December and January. Chilean wine competes successfully in Shanghai's premium retail and hospitality channels, while copper and lithium feed the Delta's manufacturing base. The consulate doubles as a ProChile trade promotion post.
Visa Services
The consulate processes visa applications for Chinese residents in its consular district travelling to Chile. Chile offers visa-free entry to Chinese nationals holding valid US visas. Standard applications include tourist, temporary resident and student categories.
Consular Services
The consulate provides passport renewal, document legalisation, notarial services, civil registration and emergency protection for Chilean nationals in eastern China. Powers of attorney, commercial documentation and judicial cooperation requests are handled during regular consular hours.
Trade & Export Support
Shanghai and Ningbo-Zhoushan ports handle the bulk of Chilean fruit, wine and salmon entering China's eastern seaboard. The cherry trade is seasonal and enormous — Chile ships more cherries to China than to any other market. Chilean wine has built strong brand recognition among Shanghai consumers, and copper concentrate transits through Shanghai's commodity exchanges. The China-Chile FTA facilitates preferential access across product categories.
Service Area
The consular district covers Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi and Fujian.
