Overview

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Wellington manages bilateral relations with New Zealand and is also accredited to the Cook Islands and Niue. China is New Zealand's largest trading partner. New Zealand exports dairy products, meat, seafood, wool, forestry products and wine to China. The Chinese community in New Zealand is one of the largest ethnic communities in the country, with deep roots in Auckland and Wellington. The embassy coordinates a consulate general in Auckland.

Trade & Export Support

New Zealand exports dairy products (Fonterra is a major supplier to China), meat, seafood, wool, timber, wine and kiwifruit to China. The NZ-China Free Trade Agreement (2008, upgraded 2022) provides preferential access. Chinese investment in New Zealand dairy, forestry and real estate is substantial.
