Chinese Embassy in Madrid

Embassy of China in Madrid, Spain

Overview

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Madrid is China's principal diplomatic mission in Spain and is concurrently accredited to Andorra. China and Spain maintain a comprehensive strategic partnership driven by trade, investment and cultural exchange. Spain is one of China's most important partners in Southern Europe — bilateral trade covers machinery, textiles, electronics, agricultural products and increasingly renewable energy technology. The embassy manages diplomatic relations, provides consular services through a separate consular section on Calle Josefa Valcárcel, and supports the growing Chinese community in Spain. A Consulate General in Barcelona covers Catalonia and neighbouring regions. The Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) in Madrid handles the bulk of visa processing.

Visa Services

The consular section processes visa applications for Spanish and Andorran citizens and residents. The Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) on Calle Agustín de Foxá 29 handles most visa submissions. Requirements vary by visa type — tourist (L), business (M), work (Z), study (X), transit (G). Consular section address: Calle Josefa Valcárcel 40, 1st floor, 28027 Madrid. Phone: +34 917 414 728.

Consular Services

The embassy provides passport renewal, travel document issuance, notarial services, document legalisation and emergency assistance to Chinese nationals in Spain. The consular section operates from Calle Josefa Valcárcel 40.

Trade & Export Support

China-Spain bilateral trade has grown significantly. Spain exports agricultural products (olive oil, wine, pork), machinery, vehicles and chemical products to China, while importing electronics, textiles, machinery and consumer goods. The embassy facilitates business contacts and supports Spanish participation in Chinese trade fairs including the China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Cultural & Educational Programs

The embassy supports cultural exchange through the Confucius Institute network in Spain (present at several Spanish universities), Chinese language education programmes, film festivals and art exhibitions. The Centro Cultural de China in Madrid promotes Chinese culture through events, exhibitions and language courses. Academic exchanges include scholarship programmes and university partnerships.

Service Area

The embassy covers Spain and Andorra. The Consulate General in Barcelona serves Catalonia and neighbouring areas. The consular section on Calle Josefa Valcárcel 40 handles visa and citizen services for the Madrid consular district.
