Embassy of Colombia in Washington

Embassy of Colombia in Washington, United States

Overview

The Embassy of Colombia in the United States is the principal diplomatic representation of the Colombian Foreign Ministry in the world's leading power — and the political seat of the most operationally important bilateral relationship that Colombia maintains. The United States is a strategic trade partner under the FTA signed in 2006, a key counterpart in security and counter-narcotics cooperation, host to one of the largest Colombian communities in the world and a partner in multilateral fora (OAS, IMF). The Colombian consular network in the US includes consulates in Washington DC, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Boston, Newark, Orlando, San Francisco and Tampa.

Visa Services

The Embassy and the Consulates process visa applications for US citizens travelling to Colombia — tourism, business, residence, investment and other categories. Detailed requirements are published on the Embassy's portal.

Consular Services

Consular services for Colombian citizens — passports, national ID (cédula), civil registration, notarial authentications and emergencies — are handled by the Consulate of Colombia in Washington DC (washington.consulado.gov.co), in an administratively separate office from the Embassy.

Trade & Export Support

ProColombia and the Embassy's commercial office work closely on the promotion of bilateral trade under the FTA, US investment in key Colombian sectors (energy, agroindustry, infrastructure, technology, services) and tourism.

Cultural & Educational Programs

The Embassy supports Colombian-US academic exchanges, the Fulbright programme, Colombian cultural presence in the US (literature, cinema, music, gastronomy) and the network of Colombian community organisations — one of the most active Latin American communities in the United States.
