Overview
The Honorary Consulate of Hungary in Klagenfurt is the local consular contact for Carinthia (Kärnten), Austria's southernmost federal state, bordering Italy and Slovenia and famous for the Wörthersee summer-resort culture, the Carinthian dialect, and a layered history at the meeting point of German-, Italian- and Slovene-speaking Central Europe. The office occupies a prestigious address — the historic Palais Fugger on the Theaterplatz in central Klagenfurt, opposite the Stadttheater — and is led by Honorary Consul-General Mag. Konstanze Maria Roehrs, who has held the rank of Honorarkonsulin-Generalin since February 2017. The honorary consul-general title is a notch above the more common honorary consul rank — a recognition of the substance of the local Hungarian community and of Roehrs's standing — but the actual scope is the same as any other honorary consulate: Beglaubigungsbefugnis only, no passport or visa authority. Public office is one morning per week (Wednesday 09:00–12:00), so an advance call or email is helpful for anything beyond a simple walk-in question. Full consular acts route to the Hungarian Embassy's Consular Section in Vienna (Schenkenstraße 3), which holds the territorial competence for Carinthia.
Consular Services
Beglaubigungsbefugnis only — document and signature authentication. The office cannot issue Hungarian passports or visas, register births/marriages/deaths, or perform other notarial acts requiring full embassy authority. Carinthian residents needing those services go to the Hungarian Embassy Consular Section in Vienna. The honorary consul-general also serves as a Carinthia-based first-line contact for Hungarian nationals in distress.
Service Area
Carinthia (Kärnten). The office's jurisdiction is limited to this single federal state. Full consular services for Carinthia are provided by the Hungarian Embassy's Consular Section in Vienna at Schenkenstraße 3.

Special Notes
The Honorarkonsul-General rank is one step above the standard Honorarkonsul title and is awarded by Hungary at its discretion to honorary consuls of particular standing or in jurisdictions of particular importance. It does not change the scope of consular powers, which remain limited to authentication and first-line guidance. The Palais Fugger address — a Renaissance townhouse named after the famous Augsburg banking dynasty whose Carinthian branch operated here — places the consulate at the architectural and civic centre of Klagenfurt, opposite the Stadttheater. Working languages are German and Hungarian.
