Italian Embassy in Vienna

Embassy of Italy in Vienna, Austria

Overview

The Embassy of Italy in Vienna is Italy's diplomatic mission in Austria, located on Rennweg 27 in Vienna's third district. The consular section operates from a separate address at Ungargasse 43, also in the third district. Italy and Austria are EU and Schengen partners with deep bilateral ties rooted in shared Alpine geography, cross-border trade, cultural exchange, and a large Italian community in Austria. The Italian diaspora in Austria is one of the largest foreign communities in the country, concentrated in Vienna but with significant presence in Tyrol (connected to South Tyrol across the Brenner), Carinthia, Salzburg, Styria, and Upper Austria. The embassy coordinates five honorary consulates across Austria (Salzburg, Graz, Klagenfurt, Linz, Innsbruck) that provide local consular access outside Vienna.

Consular Services

The consular section at Ungargasse 43 provides passport and identity card services, civil registrations, notarial services, document authentication, and emergency consular assistance for Italian nationals in Austria. Emergency contact outside office hours: +43 676 708 48 84.

Service Area

The embassy covers the entire Republic of Austria. Five honorary consulates in Salzburg, Graz, Klagenfurt, Linz, and Innsbruck provide local consular assistance in their respective regions.
