Overview
The Embassy of New Zealand to the United States is the senior post in New Zealand's diplomatic network in the Americas, located on Observatory Circle in Washington's Embassy Row. The Embassy manages the bilateral relationship with the United States across foreign policy, defence and intelligence cooperation under Five Eyes, trade and investment, science and technology, and the substantial people-to-people flows between the two countries. New Zealand also maintains a Consulate-General in New York and a Consulate-General in Los Angeles, and the Embassy coordinates that wider US network.
Visa Services
The Embassy does not process visa applications for travel to New Zealand. Visitors to New Zealand from the United States are encouraged to apply for New Zealand visas and NZeTAs online via the Immigration New Zealand portal.
Consular Services
The Embassy provides passport, citizenship, notarial and emergency consular services to New Zealand citizens in its jurisdiction. Routine services run by appointment. The Embassy can also assist New Zealanders affected by emergencies — natural disasters, hospitalisation, arrest or loss of documents — and works with the wider US consular network on serious cases.
Trade & Export Support
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) operates a substantial presence in the United States and works closely with the Embassy on trade and investment promotion, with offices in Washington, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and the wider US network. Sectors of focus include food and beverage, aerospace, technology, screen and creative industries, and renewable energy.
Cultural & Educational Programs
The Embassy supports cultural and education engagement between New Zealand and the United States — including the Fulbright New Zealand programme, the Edmund Hillary Fellowship's US partnerships, the New Zealand Defence Force liaison, and ongoing Five Eyes intelligence and security cooperation.
