Overview

The Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. is Thailand's principal diplomatic mission in the United States, located on Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown. The consular office operates from a separate location at 2300 Kalorama Road, N.W. The United States is one of Thailand's most important allies — a treaty ally since 1954 — and one of the largest source markets for tourism to Thailand. The embassy manages bilateral relations across defence, trade, education, and culture. Thailand also maintains consulates-general in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago to serve the large Thai-American community and the high volume of American travellers.

Visa Services

US citizens can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days (since July 15, 2024) for tourism, business engagements, and urgent or ad-hoc work — extendable for 30 additional days at Thai immigration's discretion. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon return. Immigration may require proof of adequate funds (20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family). The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is mandatory since May 2025. All visa applications must be submitted online via thaievisa.go.th. Temporary, provisional, and emergency passports are accepted for visa-free entry but other travel documents are not.

Consular Services

The consular office at 2300 Kalorama Road provides visa processing, Thai passport issuance and renewal (by appointment), Thai national ID card services (by appointment), civil registration, document legalisation, and protection services for Thai nationals. Mobile consular services are offered periodically.

The embassy handles diplomatic relations for all of the United States. Consular services are shared with consulates-general in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
