British Consulate in Izmir

Consulate of UK in İzmir, Turkey

Overview

The British Consulate in Izmir serves British nationals along Turkey's Aegean coast — a region that draws large numbers of British tourists and expatriates for its beaches, ancient ruins (Ephesus, Pergamon, Pamukkale are within reach), olive groves, and relaxed coastal lifestyle. Izmir, Turkey's third-largest city and principal Aegean port, is home to a well-established British expatriate community. The Alsancak waterfront location puts the consulate in the heart of the city's most cosmopolitan district.

Visa Services

British nationals do not require a visa for tourist stays in Turkey of up to 90 days. UK visa enquiries for Turkish nationals must be directed to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

Consular Services

The consulate provides passport replacement and emergency travel documents, emergency assistance for British nationals in distress, support following arrests, deaths, crime, or hospitalisation, referrals to local lawyers, funeral directors, and translators, marriage documentation, and notarial services.

Service Area

The consulate serves the Aegean region of Turkey including Izmir and surrounding provinces. For the Mediterranean coast: Vice-Consulate Antalya. For the southwest coast: Honorary Consulates Bodrum, Fethiye, and Marmaris. For Istanbul and Marmara: Consulate General Istanbul. For diplomatic matters: Embassy Ankara.

Special Notes

The consulate is in the Alsancak district of Izmir, near the waterfront. Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport offers direct flights to the UK. The Aegean coast offers Ephesus (one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the Mediterranean), the travertine terraces of Pamukkale, the hilltop acropolis of Pergamon, and the beach resorts of Kuşadası, Çeşme, and Alaçatı.
