Overview
Omani citizens applying for a U.S. visa — visitor (B-1/B-2), student (F-1), work, or immigrant — submit applications at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat. Oman is not part of the Visa Waiver Program, so all Omani nationals require a visa regardless of travel purpose. Appointments are booked online through the USTravelDocs portal. The embassy also serves U.S. citizens living in or visiting Oman through its American Citizen Services unit. Note: U.S. nationals travelling to Oman can obtain a tourist visa on arrival or via Oman's e-visa portal.
Visa Services
The embassy processes the full range of nonimmigrant visa categories for Omani residents: B-1/B-2 visitor, F-1 student, J-1 exchange visitor, and H-1B/L-1 work visas. Immigrant visas for family reunification and employment-based cases are also handled here. Applicants must schedule appointments via the USTravelDocs portal and attend an in-person interview. The embassy serves the Sultanate of Oman; applicants based elsewhere in the Gulf should check the nearest U.S. mission.
Consular Services
The American Citizen Services (ACS) unit provides passport renewals, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, notarial services, and emergency assistance to U.S. citizens in Oman. The ACS team is a key contact for the substantial American community working in Oman's energy, defense, and logistics sectors.
Trade & Export Support
The U.S. Commercial Service supports American exporters targeting Oman's market, with particular focus on defense equipment, energy infrastructure, healthcare, and ICT. The U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement (in force since 2009) provides preferential market access for U.S. goods and services.
Investment Opportunities
Oman's Vision 2040 economic diversification plan creates investment openings in tourism, manufacturing, logistics, and renewable energy. The U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement gives U.S. companies preferential access. The embassy, through SelectUSA, also promotes Omani investment into the United States.
Business Support
The embassy's Economic Section monitors Oman's economic environment and works with the Omani government on investment climate issues and trade facilitation under the bilateral FTA. It supports U.S. companies operating or seeking to enter the Omani market, particularly in energy and infrastructure — sectors central to Oman Vision 2040.
Cultural & Educational Programs
The Public Affairs section manages the Fulbright scholarship programme and English-language initiatives, connecting Omani students and professionals with American academic institutions. The embassy also supports cultural exchange events highlighting shared interests in history, innovation, and the arts.
Appointment Information
All consular service and visa interview appointments must be booked online via the USTravelDocs portal at ustraveldocs.com. Walk-ins are not accepted. Applicants should review required documentation on the portal before booking.
Special Notes
The embassy is located in the diplomatic quarter of Shatti Al Qurum in Muscat. Visitors are subject to standard security screening. The U.S. and Oman maintain a bilateral Free Trade Agreement and longstanding treaty ties. Oman is generally considered safe for visitors; travellers should check current U.S. State Department advisories before travelling.
