United States Embassy in Bratislava

Embassy of USA in Bratislava, Slovakia

Overview

Slovakia is a member of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), so Slovak nationals travelling to the United States for tourism or business for up to 90 days do not need a visa — they travel under ESTA. For longer stays, work, study, or immigrant purposes, Slovak nationals apply at the U.S. Embassy in Bratislava. The embassy also provides consular services for U.S. citizens in Slovakia.

Visa Services

Because Slovakia is in the VWP, the embassy does not process B-1/B-2 visitor visas for Slovak nationals. It processes other nonimmigrant categories: F-1 student visas, J-1 exchange visas, work visas (H-1B, L-1), and all immigrant visa categories including family and employment-based immigration. Applicants from third countries residing in Slovakia may also apply. Appointments are required via ustraveldocs.com.

Consular Services

The American Citizen Services (ACS) unit assists U.S. citizens in Slovakia with passport renewals, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, notarial services, and emergency assistance. U.S. citizens in Slovakia should register with the STEP program.

Trade & Export Support

The embassy's Economic Section supports U.S. companies exporting to or investing in Slovakia. Key sectors include automotive, IT, and energy. The section provides market analysis and helps facilitate business connections.

Investment Opportunities

Slovakia offers a skilled workforce and a strategic location in Central Europe, making it an attractive destination for U.S. investors. The SelectUSA program also encourages Slovak companies to consider investment opportunities in the United States.

Business Support

The embassy assists U.S. businesses with market entry information, regulatory guidance, and support for resolving trade and investment issues in Slovakia.

Cultural & Educational Programs

The Public Affairs section manages educational and cultural exchange programs including the Fulbright Program for academic exchange, speaker programs, and English language learning support.

Appointment Information

Appointments are required for all routine consular services. Schedule visa interviews and ACS services online via ustraveldocs.com or sk.usembassy.gov. Embassy address: Hviezdoslavovo námestie 4-5, 811 02 Bratislava. Phone: +421 2 5443 3338.

Special Notes
